In May 2021, we undertook a pilot Natural Capital Evaluation of the Cotswolds National Landscape with funding from Natural England, sourced by the National Landscapes Association. The results can be examined through this bespoke dashboard tool.
What does the dashboard do?
The Natural Capital Evaluation looks at a range of issues important to the Cotswolds including: habitats, nature recovery, carbon storage, farming, water flow regulation, and water quality regulation. This is the first time this data has been consistently analysed across the whole Cotswolds National Landscape area. Such a completely Cotswolds-focussed approach is rare, due to the number of local authority and regional boundaries involved here.
How is the dashboard useful?
This powerful tool allows data which is already publicly available to be investigated at different scales, whilst automatically presenting graphs, maps, and tables – and calculating areas by landscape character area and designation.
How does the dashboard work?
Use the side bar on the left hand of the screen to bring up a brief explanation of the data presented, along with the methods used and a document with further detailed explanations – which can be downloaded from the technical specification page.
