Shorter and Steadier 2025-1 Cleeve Common

Back to Guided Walks page

The walk starts from the Wardens’ Wood car park and goes up West Down onto the main part of Cleeve Common, past the trig point at the highest point of the Cotswolds, as far as the masts.

We then turn northeast and join a path with great views towards the Malverns and Winchcombe that leads to the deserted ruins of Wontley Farm where we reach a very ancient track leading back to the car park. Parts of the walk are likely to be a bit muddy. This is the first in 2025 of a series of shorter, steadier walks to introduce new walkers to the splendour of our glorious Cotswold landscape and the sheer joy of walking in the countryside. Shorter walks will be at a gentler pace for those who fear that most Wardens’ Guided Walks may be a bit challenging. They will also be ideal for families (though not pushchairs, sorry) and possibly anyone wanting to regain fitness after a health setback. Children must be kept under the supervision of a responsible adult at all times. Photo: NMann

This walk is organised by Cotswold Voluntary Wardens, the voluntary arm of the Cotswolds Conservation Board. These walks offer an interesting and often entertaining way of exploring our wonderful Cotswold countryside and landscape. All walks by the Voluntary Wardens are FREE OF CHARGE however donations are welcome and help us to take care of the countryside.

PLEASE: always remember to wear appropriate footwear because some walks may be steep and muddy in places. Dogs are not allowed on walks, except guide dogs and hearing dogs. It is advisable to check the website or call the Cotswolds Conservation Board (07841 663607) beforehand for details of any changes, particularly during bad weather.
