CANCELLED – The Blockley Silk Trade and Five Mile Drive – CANCELLED
A circular walk from Blockley through Dovedale to Five Mile Drive and Norcombe Wood and return.
We start with a brief tour through the village of Blockley learning some of its history as a thriving industrialised silk village in the 19th Century. Then out of the village through the woodland of Dovedale and up to “Five Mile Drive” where we explore the origins of that name. After passing the site of the abandoned Medieval Village of Upton we head along fieldpaths to Norcombe Wood and return into Blockley. Please bring drinks and snacks.
This walk is organised by Cotswold Voluntary Wardens, the voluntary arm of the Cotswolds Conservation Board. These walks offer an interesting and often entertaining way of exploring our wonderful Cotswold countryside and landscape. All walks by the Voluntary Wardens are FREE OF CHARGE however donations are welcome and help us to take care of the countryside.
PLEASE: always remember to wear appropriate footwear because some walks may be steep and muddy in places. Dogs are not allowed on walks, except guide dogs and hearing dogs. It is advisable to check the website or call the Cotswolds Conservation Board (07841 663607) beforehand for details of any changes, particularly during bad weather.
