Apples, Coffins and Salt

Back to Guided Walks page

The walk takes the well-trodden Salt Way from Chipping Norton to Salford and the lesser known Coffin walk to Over Norton. You will cross a nameless brook and visit Chippy's community orchard. Please bring a drink and a snack. Start in one churchyard, rest in another and look at a renovated fountain.

Free car parking in New Street Car Park. Toilets available there [20p charge coin] but if full It is also possible to park along the Worcester Road [A44] near the children's playground To reach the church from the car park cross the A44 and walk downhill for about 50m. Turn right when you reach an archway and walk along Distons Lane all the way to the church. There is a little pavement walking but the route is mostly on Public Rights of Way. Generally good tracks but possibility of mud on a couple of short sections. There are lots of eating opportunities in Chipping Norton after the walk.

This walk is organised by Cotswold Voluntary Wardens, the voluntary arm of the Cotswolds Conservation Board. These walks offer an interesting and often entertaining way of exploring our wonderful Cotswold countryside and landscape. All walks by the Voluntary Wardens are FREE OF CHARGE however donations are welcome and help us to take care of the countryside.

PLEASE: always remember to wear appropriate footwear because some walks may be steep and muddy in places. Dogs are not allowed on walks, except guide dogs and hearing dogs. It is advisable to check the website or call the Cotswolds Conservation Board (07841 663607) beforehand for details of any changes, particularly during bad weather.
