Explore the Cotswolds

The Cotswolds is one of the country’s most beautiful landscapes with nearly 800 square miles of superb scenery, picturesque towns and villages, and endless opportunities to get out and explore the area on foot, by bike or wheel, or on horseback.

About the Cotswolds National Landscape

The Cotswolds National Landscape stretches from Warwickshire and Worcestershire in the north, to Wiltshire and Bath in the south.

The Cotswold escarpment runs the length of the western edge  of the Cotswolds, and is a visible reminder of the dominating feature of the Cotswolds – its underlying geology of Jurassic limestone. This limestone has influenced the way we have settled here as people, the way we work the land, the trading history of the area, and the look of the landscape through time. It also means we have many precious habitats here today – wildflower grassland in particular, among others.

This is a popular area for tourism – both national and international, and there is much to discover here – from epic trails and views, to pretty villages and historic market towns.

The Cotswolds National Landscape is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), so as a team, we work in partnership with many others to help look after this special place.

Our team is supported by a dedicated group of over 400 Cotswold Voluntary Wardens – who help us with trails and access on the ground, outdoor education and community work, leading guided walks, and more.
